Silom, running parallel to Sathorn Road, is the heart of the business district. Head offices of multinational corporations and financial institutions are housed in glittering high rises. At night, the streets between Silom and Sathorn fill with people out for the evening, shopping and partying. Patpong, with its infamous night life, is located here.

This area is congested with traffic, but the SkyTrain and underground (MRT) make it easy to get in and out without suffering through an interminable traffic jam.

The night markets here are full of the usual assortment: knockoff designer goods, cheap clothing, souvenirs, and much more. Prices may be a bit higher than in other areas, but there is plenty to choose from. For wider streets and a tamer atmosphere, try the Suan Lum Night Bazaar near the Lumphini subway station. Stalls are modern and a variety of good restaurants provide refreshment and a place to sit and rest.

Serious nightlife denizens will head for Patpong after sundown for gogo bars, sex shows, souvenir shopping, and a wide variety of entertainments to suit many tastes. Located on two small sois, or lanes, near the Sala Daeng SkyTrain station, Patpong is worth checking out if you want to say you’ve partied in Bangkok.

Japanese visitors will feel at home in Soi Thaniya, where kimono wearing girls beckon from doorways and Japanese signs are everywhere. Gay visitors can find their own party in Silom Soi 2 and Soi 4, the center of gay nightlife in Bangkok.

The Silom area is liberally peppered with upscale restaurants and luxury hotels, offering plenty of choice to if you stay in this area.
